Whether you’re mid-renovation or simply seeking fresh inspiration in a setting that stirs the soul, this retreat offers a rare balance of expert-led teaching, architectural insight, and the beauty of Italian life – all from the comfort of Kate’s 24-room villa nestled in the hills above Turin.

From Design to Décor

Join us for five days of design mastery, renovation strategy, vintage treasure-hunting, and truly memorable meals. Alongside design journalist and author Kate Watson-Smyth and architect-designer Catherine Finkernagel, you’ll learn what it means to bring a thoughtful, cohesive home to life – from early concept to final flourish.

Expect structured workshops, warm conversation, and access to over fifty years of combined expertise, all delivered with elegance, humour, and heartfelt hospitality.

  • “This weekend was completely restorative - not just in reconnecting with my passion, but in connecting with a group of hugely engaging and inspiring women. I left with creative clarity and a personal hype squad.”

    Retreat Guest, 2025

  • “Catherine, you inspired me with your workshops - especially your approach to resisting Stage 4 in renovation! Kate, you are the dream host. This weekend was joyful, relaxing, delicious, emotional and educational. Quite the feat.”

    Retreat Guest, 2025

  • “Learning about the roadmap was very empowering for future projects. I realized we often dive in at the wrong point (Step 4 anyone?) and spin around due to excess choices, often imperiling execution or resulting in wasted time/money. I’m looking forward to following the roadmap on future projects.”

    Retreat Guest 2025

  • "Hilarious cultural time with practical design advice and insights."

    Retreat Guest 2025

  • "A relaxing, fun, and collaborative immersion into interior design and the gastronomic delights of northern Italy."

    Retreat Guest 2025

  • "An inspiring adventure on so many levels, from design immersion, color inspiration, the pleasures of the table, and especially human interactions."

    Retreat Guest 2025

  • "The fellow guests were energised, warm, sincere and fun. It was not why I attended the retreat, but it exceeded my expectations. You took a group of fabulous women and wrapped us in a thoughtful, organised and well structured ‘hug’."

    Retreat Guest 2025

  • "The community of women and generosity of the hosts was very grounding even in a new setting. I came away full of design inspiration while also experiencing a surprisingly reflective weekend."

    Retreat Guest 2025

  • "I didn’t come to the workshop with an immediate project since we’re a little betwixt and between. I was immediately inspired to organize my reference materials, which were scattered across the house : ) I am excited to use the roadmap in the next project we select to start and am sharing things with my husband as well. I also started developing a new palette for a future project - iterations of colors and styles we have in our current home."
